So, you thought
you had a hard work until now? Wait until you start your essays. Some things to keep in mind while
preparing your applications:
Try to make your application the
best marketing material you can for yourself. Try to highlight your
qualities always giving real life examples. For example: you may want to
highlight your good quantitative ability, so you may cite one specific job
you've done that enforces that ability. When acknowledging your weaknesses
you may cite things you've done in order to improve in those areas.
Your application MUST fit together.
You can't say in your essays how much you love the financial markets if
you have never worked with anything related to the financial markets.
Remember also that your recommendation letters must fit with your
application. Recommenders should emphasize the same qualities and weaknesses
you have pointed before. After finishing your application read it again
several times looking for flaws and loosen parts.
Try to stand out of the crowd.
Most schools are looking for diversity and if you have other qualities
(sometimes even not business related) don't be shy to point them.
Request you recommendation letters
well in advance. Don't forget to send your recommenders a quick letter
telling them how your application will look like and what do you expect them
to write (in general terms). Also remember to send envelopes and stamps so
the person can return you the sealed letters or send directly to the
admissions office.
Ask people to read your application
and give you feedback.
Remember to request your transcripts
in advance, specially if you are an international applicant because you'll
be needing an authorized translation of all your documents.
